Look at the wall material first. Older stucco here often sits over wood lath. Cutting it cracks outward past the hole. Newer tract stucco sits over foam board. That needs a rigid sleeve or the patch dishes. Interior walls tell you more than the dryer does.

Check the garage. Many local laundry pairs live in the garage on a slab. The tempting exit is straight through the roll-up door header. That header is structural, so the duct gets pushed sideways instead, and sideways is where lint packs.

Canyon-edge lots complicate termination. Homes backing the Rose Canyon and Switzer Canyon slopes have limited flat wall facing usable ground. A downhill sidewall vent ends up above brush. That matters during fire clearance inspections.

Older duplexes in Normal Heights and City Heights share a chase between units. Two dryers, one abandoned pipe, and nobody knows which end goes where. Smoke or a camera settles it before cutting anything.

Some reroutes should not happen. If the run is short and the only sin is foil flex, replacing it with rigid metal fixes the airflow. If a landlord will not permit an exterior penetration, a reroute is off the table regardless. Say that plainly instead of selling a longer job.
